Mind, Body and Spirit
YMCA’s Christian Emphasis can be summarized by four main points;
1. Christian Social Action
The love of God motivates us to make a difference in local communities.
2. Unity in Diversity
We treat everyone as a valuable creation.
3. Christian Values
We show positive behavior and attitudes.
4. Faith is a Journey
We help each other reach our full potential
The YMCA is an organization based on a Christian vision of society and of people. Apart from our social action programmes, we aim to build bridges to and between churches and share whatever experience and expertise we have built up through our programme.
This is not an easy task most of the time in an increasingly secularised society. However, we are finding, for the most part, that our young people are appreciative of the opportunity to explore faith issues. Some useful resources in this regard are to be found by following the web links in the right-hand panel.
Our Heart n Soul programme takes a holistic view of health incorporating sessions on spiritual health. In our Sexual Health work we also try to ensure Biblical options are on the table.
Global Youth Work is also part of our Christian work and commitment to brothers and sisters in less fortunate circumstances or at a challenging stage of development. Global Youth Work actions are built into most of our projects and are also a focus for the life of the organization as a whole.
Closer to home we monitor some of the issues affecting the young people coming to us and responding in whatever way we can sometimes making our own representations to local TDs and at other times using the auspices of the National Youth Council of Ireland.
